BORDER ISSUES THAT AFFECT US ALL.

The Border Star Operation was at it again. Using Federal funds to help out our friends in Crystal City. Some deputies went with Sheriff Arvin West to Crystal City to help out local law enforcement with the annual Spinach Festival. The first annual spinach festival took place in 1936 and the Spinach Festival maintains an office in downtown Crystal City. The Spinach Festival was resumed in 1982 after being suspended during World War II. A statue of Popeye was erected with the blessing of the sailorman’s creator in 1937. It ranks high in the pantheon of less-than-serious statues in Texas. Today the pipe-smoking sailor stands in front of city hall – sharing the same banishment of other tobacco users.

A high influx of persons attending the festival on a high intensity smuggling corridor. Also use of a new toy in fighting crime. The Gyro Cam. The Gyro Cam was lent to Hudspeth County S. O.. The Gyro Cam is equipped with a Color camera, infra red camera, night vision camera, and video recording capabilities.
